Fall & Winter Sea Kayaking In Baja California
r Featured Destination
Fall is one of the best times to experience Baja and all it has to offer. The waters of the Sea of Cortez are still warm and inviting and the air temperatures have cooled down making it perfect for sea kayaking. Trips are offered both, along the coast or in the beautiful bays around Espiritu Santo Island. Kayaking with the California Gray Whales in February is another experience you’ll remember forever.

The Coastal Itinerary. For a more active, participatory vacation, the Coastal Itinerary offers the most kayaking since you paddle from camp to camp. These trips are 10 days in length, starting in Loreto and ending in La Paz and accompanied by a 48’ support boat. You’ll have the wonderful opportunity to snorkel with the sea lions of Los Islotes and see some of Baja’s coastline only accessible by water.
The Islands Itinerary. If you’d still like to visit this area of the Sea of Cortez but are less inclined to do as much paddling then the Islands Itinerary is “best of both worlds” trip. On this 10 day trip you shuttle from island to island via a 48’ support boat and you kayak around each island destination. These trips start in La Paz and finish in Loreto.
Isla Espiritu Santo Base Camp. A shorter option is the Espiritu Santo 7 day trip. These trips begin and end in La Paz and include your hotel at both the beginning and end of the trip. A base camp is set up on Espiritu Santo with all excursions optional. Of course you will not want to miss the opportunity to visit the sea lion rookery at Isla Los Islotes or to hike in this beautiful, unspoiled island in Mexico.

Sea of Cortez . Finally if you only have seven days but want to be a bit more active, then the new Sea of Cortez seven day trip is definitely the one to consider. This trip does not have a base camp so there is more kayaking and it visits Espiritu Santo, La Partida, San Jose and the Baja coastline. The trip is a La Paz and return package with hotel included on both ends of your trip.
Whale Watching Base Camp. In February every year the California Gray Whales come to the Pacific Lagoons of Baja to breed and calve. The opportunity to get close to these leviathans is, for most people, a wildlife experience unparalleled in their lives.
A beach camp with cabin tents and cots and delicious food provides a comfortable front row seat to the action. And with the undeveloped expansive ocean beach to the west and birdy mangroves to explore by kayak, there is no shortage of things to do and places to see on this 7 day trip from La Paz.
All of these trips are explained in more detail here on the Baja page. And they include all your camping gear, kayaking gear, food, guides, hotel stays in La Paz and snorkeling gear.
