Rafting Trips on the Yampa River

The Yampa:

The Yampa River is the Colorado Plateau's last major undammed river and one of the prettiest anywhere. As it carves its way through red sandstone and gray limestone the river then cuts into the deep and beautiful Weber sandstone where the spectacular walls are tiger striped with desert varnish. The river decends at a moderate pace, rated Class II+ and covers 46 miles on the Yampa River and another 25 miles on the Green River through exciting, Class III Whirlpool and Split Mountain CanyonsThe whitewater is fun and spirited ending above the Green River with infamous and storied Warm Springs Rapid created in 1965. Being undammed, it has a limited season for river running of May, June and July.

Plan on exciting high water trips in May and while June is the most popular month, the wilderness value for solitude is very good. Another beautiful aspect of this river is that it's a "living" river in that it is free flowing with a healthy ecology and associated wildlife.

The Yampa River offers great family fun and makes a great introductory river and camping trip for kids.  Minimum age is 8 years except during higher flows when 10 years is the minimum.

Prices start at $760 per person.  Youth fares are also available.
