"A concept of sublimity can be obtained never again to be equaled on the hither side of paradise."John Wesley Powell
The Colorado River runs through the Grand Canyon National Park for 277 miles from Lees Ferry to Lake Mead. This is the true full length trip through the entire Grand Canyon but we include two other trips in this section because they also include a slower pace through the heart of the canyon where you'll find the "showpiece" hikes and biggest rapids.

When people ask us which trip in Grand Canyon is the best trip we always say that the longest trips are the best trips. For anyone seeking a high quality experience through the bottom of this most sublime natural wonder of the world, this trip allows you go slowly and explore many of the side canyons in depth. With the added time on these trips you gain the flexibility to enjoy the opportunities each new day provides like hiking farther, swimming longer or fishing undisturbed in beautiful surroundings.
These trips are available in three different crafts;
1. Raft. Rubber inflated raft, 18' with 4-5 guests and a guide who rows the raft.
2. Paddle Raft. Rubber inflated raft 18' which are paddled by eight guests (four on each side) with a guide in the back who acts as the "paddle captain" and calls the commands.
3.Dory. Wooden or aluminum 18' double ended, hard hulled boat with four guests and a guide who rows.

Sometimes these crafts are combined on trips so you have a choice of rides and participation levels throughout the trip. When this is done we call them "Hybrid" trips.
These trips are typically run in 12-14 days. Depending on the outfitter and the distance run on the river, shorter and longer trips are available from 10-19 days. They use the rafts described above, which carry 4-5 people each and all your supplies and gear for the trip. Normally 5-7 boats travel down the river together with group sizes around 22 people. They are all oar powered and the rafts are rowed by your guide. You are welcome to row for fun and exercise but control of the boat is your guide's responsibility. The trips have three origination points: Flagstaff or Page, AZ and Las Vegas, NV . Round trip transportation is provided from these starting points to the launch ramp at Lees Ferry, AZ and return.
