FAQ'S At the start of the trip. Depending on the trip you take you will need to meet the outfitter in Flagstaff, AZ, Page, AZ or Las Vegas, NV. A general trip orientation is held on the evening before the trip launches to issue some river equipment discuss the itinerary and answer any last minute questions.   Camping / Toilet Facilities Camping in the canyon is one of the great pleasures of the trip. You may hike, fish, read or relax and enjoy the view of the river and the canyon. Outfitters either provide a full sleep kit or you can rent one for the trip. Sleep kits consist of a freshly laundered sleeping bag, an inflatable sleeping pad and ground tarp which makes sleeping on the ground comfortable. Tents are always available in case of rain. There are no "assigned" camps in the canyon which maintains the expeditionary nature of the experience. A clean camp toilet and hand-wash system in a private setting is the first thing set up upon arrival in camp and the last to be dismantled the next morning. It is similar to home except with a better view and it doesn't flush. A separate day use version is always available for your comfort and peace of mind. Age limitations Most outfitters want kids to be 12 years old on an oar powered rafting trip. This can be a great trip for kids but in your consideration think about the child's camping experience and overall preparedness for living outside. On the other end of the age spectrum the only real consideration is the hike out to the South Rim.  Extra Luggage Typically you may leave extra luggage at your hotel for a nominal per bag fee. No lockers are available at McCarran International Airport. Extra luggage may be stored with the airline that flies you to the river for $15 per bag. Transfer all your personal clothing and gear which you will need on the river into a small, lightweight soft-sided duffel bag. Identify your duffel bag with a label. Please do not bring suitcases to the river. Included in your equipment package is a water-resistant personal bag for your duffel bag. At the end of the trip The trip ends at Phantom Ranch at river mile 88 along the river. From here you hike 9.5 miles up and out to the South Rim. It is recommended to stay overnight on the rim so you can take your time on the hike and so you have a place to relax and freshen up after your hike and enjoy a fun, celebratory dinner at one of the fine restaurants in the Park. You can get an early start the following morning to continue your travels and we're happy to assist with ground or air arrangements.
